INTERN PROGRAM
Ted Kurland Associates began as a booking agency in the Seventies with Gary Burton as one of their first clients. It has since become the premier boutique booking agency for jazz music. Miles Davis, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Modern Jazz Quartet have all been clients of the Agency. The present roster includes Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, Sonny Rollins, Roy Haynes, Wynton, Branford and Ellis Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Cassandra Wilson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Patricia Barber, Kurt Elling, Christian McBride, Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson and many others. TKA does have a few blues and world music artists in their present roster, including the Original Blues Brothers Band, but the primary client base are its roster of jazz artists.
For a full list of our present artists, you can visit the website versions of the artist roster: http://www.tedkurland.com/pbuild/roster.cfm and the symphony roster:http://www.tedkurland.com/pbuild/sroster.cfm. You can also download Rosters from the resources section of our home page.
TKA arranges bookings for these artists on a national and international basis. Interns will work on projects that include overviews of the booking process — from planning tours and soliciting dates to the negotiating and contracting process. TKA also has a Management Division that utilizes interns on a case-by-case basis — assisting in the areas of artist management, tour management, and music publishing and royalty accounting.
While there are the usual duties of filing and word-processing, we try to create an experience which will help interns to better understand the business of booking and management of artists. If there are specific components of the business they would like to explore with more detail, interns are able to formulate more specific projects with the Internship Coordinator.
